SCHOOL CLOSING - SCHOOL CLOSING October snowstorm, which dumped over a foot of snow onto parts of New Jersey and left more than half a million residents without power and the streets littered with trees and debris, many schools closing have decided to close or delay opening on Monday.

Widespread school closings often fail to generate expected savings or meaningful student achievement gains, but can contribute to significant community upheaval and neighborhood blight. Those findings are part of a new study of closings in  San Diego school board member Scott Barnett announces that he wants to put an end to a proposal that would close some area school. School trustee Scott Barnett wants the district to end the heated process of closing schools, worried his district will. 


Last year, the district announced plans to consolidate 16 schools. After public outcry, four schools were spared. Any new school closings or consolidations must be announced by Dec. 1 as part of a law signed last month by Gov. Pat Quinn.
